Grace Chacón, (’27?)
Los niños de Los Limones
My name is Grace Chacón and I am 14 years old. I am a Latina artist with Guatemalan roots. I had the opportunity to go to Gualán, Zacapa and visit a community run by a Christian radio station called Radio Redención. During my stay, I captured memories of children who unfortunately don’t have basic resources such as shelter, clean water, medicine, cloths, shoes, or even toothpaste.
Many thoughts came to mind when seeing these children not living the childhood that the usual North American child takes for granted. This is personal to me because my parents lived a great part of their life in Gualán before emigrating to the United States.
Over 28 years have passed and we have not forgotten our community. My hope in this matter is to develop a strong community where we can help children strive for a better life. Through the arts of education, we can voice this issue to our brothers and sisters across the world.
I am proud to be Guatemalan, I am proud to be a daughter, and I am proud to be a girl with a camera.
