Voces de la comunidad
As an international student, it was quite strange at first when I heard the word “community.” In fact, I did not think of it as a word for me. After all, I am so far away from my home, China, and have no relative or friend in the United States. I first came here for high school in 2014. Back then, I stayed with a host family for two years before I left for college. During those two years, the neighborhood my host family lived in and their friends gradually became my community. Right after I got familiar with that community, however, I had to leave for college in another state. At that moment, it was only natural for me to feel nervous and start to panic. I was deeply concerned about my future lonely life without a tangible community. I came to Holy Cross with this concern and soon found it silly and completely unnecessary. Here at Holy Cross, I live in acommunity where every faculty member and every student will cordially offer to help whenever I have any question or difficulty. Myriad resources are available to assist me in living a positive, meaningful life, such as the Counseling Center and Center for Career Development, both of which have helped me greatly during the most tiring and confusing period in college. Most importantly, these experiences make me realize that I am not only a member of the Holy Cross Community as a student but also as a family member, who takes care of others and spreads kindness around.
